The Florida Gators could open the season without their leader on defense available for action.
Linebacker David Reese is questionable for Saturday’s season opener at home against Charleston Southern.
Reese, who led UF with 102 tackles in 2017, injured his ankle during practice last week, according to 247Sports. Gators’ coach Dan Mullen did not specify Reese’s injury, but said he and safety Shawn Davis would be game-time decisions.
Freshman receiver Jacob Copeland, the highest-rated player in UF’s 2018 recruiting class, is doubtful and missed preseason camp due to injury. Cornerback C.J. McWilliams, the backup to Chauncey Gardner-Johnson at nickelback, also is questionable.
