Gators' Jonathan India leads in-state picks, selected No. 5 in MLB draft

Third baseman Jonathan India was the first player from a state of Florida high school or college selected in the Major League Baseball draft Monday.

He was drafted No. 5 by the Cincinnati Reds. The approximate value of the pick is $5.9 million, according to MLB.com.

India, a 6-foot, 200-pound junior, was named SEC Player of the Year and a first team All-American by Baseball America. He led the conference in on-base percentage (.504) and slugging percentage (.733), was second in batting average (.364) and home runs (18) and third with 60 runs scored.
