Gators' ground-shifting 2009 loss to Alabama haunts Tim Tebow, Florida's program

GAINESVILLE — Tim Tebow's last loss as a Florida Gator — in the 2009 SEC championship game — still hurts.

It cuts him like "a dagger back in my heart," the UF former quarterback said Wednesday.

The SEC would never be the same, either.

Florida and Alabama had been mainstays in the conference title game, but their last meeting prior to Saturday's rematch altered the course of each program — and college football itself.

Coach Urban Meyer's unbeaten, defending national champion Gators cowed to Nick Saban's rising Crimson Tide during Florida's 32-13 loss six seasons ago.
