Grant Holloway’s quest for a gold medal came to a stunning end when Jamaica’s Hansle Parchment edged the former Florida Gators’ star during the 110-meter high hurdles at the Tokyo Olympics.
Aiming to add a gold medal to his increasingly impressive resumé, the 23-year-old Holloway settled for a silver medal with a time of 13.09, well shy of his best times during the event and .05 behind Parchment during the highly anticipated finals.
Holloway, an eight-time national champion at UF, entered the Olympics ranked No. 1 in the world and clear-cut favorite in Japan. He was not really challenged through two stages to reach Thursday’s finals, each time defeating Parchment, including with a time of 13.
