In Florida’s previous miraculous Swamp escape two weeks ago against Vanderbilt, Jim McElwain arrived at his postgame news conference with a smile on his face, an upbeat coach obviously happy and encouraged that the Gators somehow found a way to win a game they maybe should have lost.
That’s what champions do, he said.
After Saturday’s maybe even more miraculous escape in overtime against 30.5-point underdog FAU, McElwain wore the frown of disappointment on his face.
“That team that came in here played their tails off. Give them all the credit there is,” McElwain said of the Owls.
