The Florida Gators took another step toward making their third consecutive College World Series appearance Monday night.
It was not the cakewalk everyone expected for the SEC champions.
Top-seeded UF needed an extra day to eliminate pesky No. 3 seed Bethune-Cookman during the Gainesville Regional and advance in NCAA Tournament.
The Gators also needed a freshman to play beyond his years during Monday’s 6-1 win against the Wildcats.
Austin Langworthy carried UF with both his arm and his bat.
A native of Williston, just outside of Gainesville, Langworthy hit a three-run homer during the sixth inning to break open a scoreless game.
