The Florida Gators' already-intriguing quarterback competition just got more interesting.
Former Purdue starter Austin Appleby announced on Twitter Monday he will transfer to UF as a graduate student this spring and enter the battle for the Gators' starting job. Appleby joins sophomore Treon Harris, redshirt junior transfer Luke Del Rio and two freshman expected to enroll early - Feleipe Franks and Kyle Trask - in a race that will go a long way toward determining UF's fortunes in 2016.
The 6-foot-5, 239-pound Appleby ended his Purdue career with a 332-yard, two-touchdown, two-interception performance during a 54-36 loss to in-state rival Indiana to cap an inconsistent season.
