GAINESVILLE — Alex Anzalone came to UF as a five-star recruit and one of the top inside linebackers in the 2013 recruiting class.
But after two seasons of collegiate play, the linebacker's best highlights are still on his high school tape.
Despite his elite status on the recruiting trail, Anzalone knew playing time was anything but guaranteed as he tried to earn playing time at UF.
"I didn't really listen to any of those rankings, and I knew coming in all of that didn't really matter," Anzalone said. "The best players were going to play."
But with senior Antonio Morrison still recovering from a pair of offseason knee surgeries and experience among UF's linebacker corps thin, Anzalone has assumed the starting middle linebacker position during preseason camp, a role he has worked toward since the spring.
