Mike Kelly, who was the most valuable player of the last game Ray Graves coached at Florida, died Friday morning at the age of 66.
Kelly lost his battle with brain cancer in Chattanooga, Tenn., where he owned a steel building franchise. He was diagnosed with the disease six months ago, according to former teammate and close friend Robert Harrell.
“He was a great guy,” Harrell said. “He went pretty quick.”
Kelly made two big plays in the 1969 Gator Bowl, a 14-13 win against Tennessee. He stepped in front of a Bobby Scott pass at the Florida 8-yard line and returned it to the 35.
