Mon Williams, a running back on Florida’s two national championship teams in the 2000s under Urban Meyer, has died at age 31.
The university confirmed the news Wednesday.
No cause of death was announced by the school, but former Gators teammate Emmanuel Moody posted on Instagram that a heart attack was believed to be the cause.
Williams came to Florida as a four-star recruit from Mesquite (Texas) Horn, among the top 20 running back prospects in the nation. He made a promising start to his Gators career, rushing for 95 yards on nine carries against Western Carolina in 2006 as one of the backup rushers behind Deshawn Wynn on the national championship squad.
