Two important quarterback recruits for the Gators played in state high school championship games in the Citrus Bowl, with 2016 commitment Feleipe Franks and his Crawfordville Wakulla High team losing in the Class 5A finals and 2017 commitment Jake Allen and his Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas team winning the Class 7A title.
Allen guided St. Thomas Aquinas to its ninth state title by going 11-of-14 for 152 yards and overseeing a powerful rushing attack. The highly touted Franks was the star attraction Friday afternoon, and Florida coach Jim McElwain was in attendance to see him. While Wakulla lost in the final to an Orlando Bishop Moore team led by Rayshad Lewis, the son of Ray Lewis, Franks played well, then spent Friday night reassuring Gator fans via social media that he was standing by his UF commitment and would enroll in January.
