Sometimes, the other team is just better. In this case, much better. But despite top-ranked Alabama’s 54-16 blistering of Florida in Saturday’s SEC championship game, the Gators showed a thing or two it hadn’t in many games that came before it, wins and losses alike.
The reality is that the Gators weren’t ever winning this one. Their best game against a sloppy one from the nation’s best team might have kept it contested for a while, but probably wouldn’t have changed the outcome. If anything, it re-emphasized the gulf of talent between the Crimson Tide and every other team in what has evolved into a one-team league.
