It happened 23 years ago, but former Florida wide receiver Chris Doering remembers every play in the final drive of the Gators’ 1993 game at Kentucky.
That season, Florida won the second of what would be six SEC championships under Steve Spurrier. But on September 11, it looked as if the Gators were destined to lose at Commonwealth Stadium. Quarterbacks Terry Dean and Danny Wuerffel had combined to throw seven interceptions, the last of which set up a 25-yard field goal by Kentucky’s Juha Leonoff with 1:23 left to give the Wildcats a 20-17 lead.
“They had us on the ropes,” Spurrier said at the time.
