The Florida Gators’ youth and inexperience was impossible to hide at Kentucky.
The Gators had 28 of 70 players – or 40 percent – making their first SEC road trip.
At one point, UF had three first-year players on the offensive line – tackles Martez Ivey and Fred Johnson and guard Tyler Jordan. After a promising first half quarterback Will Grier and the offense did not score again.
With UF poised to take a commanding 21-3 lead, Grier threw an interception on 1st-and-goal from the 5-yard line.
“He’s got an awful lot of growing up to do,” coach Jim McElwain said.
