GAINESVILLE — No. 1 Florida was firing on all cylinders on Sunday.
The Gators defeated No. 2 seed Georgia Tech 10-1 in the Gainesville Regional finale at McKethan Stadium to advance to the eighth super regional in program history. UF (50-13) finished the weekend 3-0 and outscored its regional opponents 25-9.
Sophomore Alex Faedo pitched eight shutout innings, surrendered just four hits and struck out 10 Georgia Tech (38-25) batters to improve to 13-1 this season.
The last pitch he threw, a third strike to Georgia Tech’s Matt Gonzalez, registered on the stadium scoreboard at 93 miles per hour.
