With preseason camp opening Thursday, here’s a preview featuring five players on the rise:
1. Brandon Powell, sophomore wide receiver: The coaches think this former tailback has a chance to be a dynamic player out of the slot position, where he could present matchup problems for linebackers and strong safeties in man coverage.
2. David Sharpe, sophomore offensive tackle: He played in six games as a true freshman last season and held his own against proven SEC competition. He is the projected starter at left tackle. He’s athletic and moves extremely well for player his size (6-foot-6, 355 pounds).
