Thursday was exactly one month until the first day of summer, or as we like to call it in Gainesville, “Yankee summer.”
We've been dealing with summer weather for weeks now, shirts sticking to our skin and confused love bugs twirling solo in the air. The first day of summer is merely another day of summer in a place where our winter lasts a fortnight and spring is often just a rumor.
It is during these brutally hot days when you get in your car and have to crank the AC directly on your steering wheel so it won't cause second-degree finger burns that our minds wander.
