Florida’s much-anticipated quarterback competition begins today with an early leader — Oregon State transfer Luke Del Rio.
Del Rio has an edge because he’s been in the offense longer than the other candidates, UF coach Jim McElwain said Tuesday.
Del Rio has been on campus, and in the offense, since last summer. The other three contenders — Purdue graduate transfer Austin Appleby and true freshmen Feleipe Franks and Kyle Trask — just arrived in January.
“Yeah, (Del Rio) has been here obviously and been learning,” McElwain said. “He and Austin have done an outstanding job together with those two young guys, Feleipe and Kyle.
