It appears the ACC is moving toward a nine-game conference schedule at the behest of ESPN, which is seeking better content from the league.
That would leave the SEC as the only Power Five conference still playing eight conference games. It’s doubtful the league would make the move to nine games unless it was shut out of the College Football Playoff and the reason given was the eight-game schedule.
Most SEC coaches feel eight games in this league is enough. If you are a school like Florida or Georgia or South Carolina, you also have a game against an in-state rival.
