GAINESVILLE — Florida’s Buddy Reed has made a name for himself this season with his speed on the base paths and diving catches in center field.
But in No. 4 national seed UF’s 8-2 win against USF Saturday night in the Gainesville Regional, all Reed needed was a flick of the bat to make a difference.
The UF sophomore belted out a two-run home run during the third inning to open up scoring and set the tone for another high-octane offensive performance in front of an announced crowd of 3,305 at McKethan Stadium.
But Reed, who had just two career home runs before the third inning, did not keep track as the ball sailed past the right-field fence.
