Florida coach Jim McElwain put an exclamation point on a week of gross incompetence on Saturday as his Gators team was humiliated by Georgia 42-7 at EverBank Field in Jacksonville.
McElwain started the week by claiming he had received death threats in a news conference when asked a question about whether his team was receiving enough credit. Florida officials met with McElwain, but he apparently blew them off. That led UF to release a statement that ended by saying McElwain would not provide additional information about the threats.
McElwain’s story further unraveled Wednesday, first in the SEC coaches’ teleconference, then in a post-practice media gathering when he shared that the threats happened in the past.
