Bethune-Cookman baseball coach Jason Beverlin knew it had been awhile since his school had beaten the Florida Gators.
Beverlin, the Wildcats’ coach since 2012, just did not realize it had been forever.
Bethune-Cookman pulled off a historic 6-2 win Sunday night at UF’s McKethan Stadium, forcing a winner-take-all matchup Monday in the Gainesville Regional of the NCAA Tournament.
“It’s huge,” Beverlin said. “Now it’s winner take all. Anything can happen.”
Top-seeded UF (44-17) entered Sunday’s matchup 31-0 in a series dating to 1989. But starting pitcher Brandy Singer ran out of gas and the Gators’ bats went cold.
