GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Considering there was a decent chance he never would see the field at Florida, Austin Appleby is making the most of his one season as a grad transfer. After leading the Gators into Knoxville and Nashville last month, Appleby got his first start in the Swamp last week and proved to be the spark the Gators needed.
Appleby was a remarkably efficient 17-of-21 for 201 yards with two touchdowns and one pick against South Carolina, but it was actually his legs that may have made the biggest impression.
On Florida’s third offensive snap, Appleby pulled back a hand-off on a zone read and rumbled down the sideline for 33 yards into the red zone.
