That latest rumor in Florida's head coaching saga takes us to Norman, Oklahoma. The Gators are looking for a proven head coach should they fire Will Muschamp (which they almost certainly will), and OU's Bob Stoops certainly meets that criteria.
According to Sports Illustrated, Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley is almost certain "to make a run at Stoops", who has ties to the university from being Steve Spurrier's defensive coordinator from 1996-1998.
He left to become the head coach at Oklahoma, where he's 165-41 in 16 seasons as the head man. Because of his success, he is making $5.25 million a year, and has all the power he wants within the football program.
It's going to be hard to pull Stoops away from that, but apparently Foley thinks the Gators have a chance. Florida is in the comparatively weak SEC East, so a quick turnaround for one of the country's traditional powers isn't out of the question.
