The Florida Gators have one desire in mind when it comes to hosting ex-UF head coach Steve Spurrier and the South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday - "to take back the Swamp."
“I really challenged our football team after the Vanderbilt win how important it is to take back The Swamp,” head coach Will Muschamp said, via Jesse Simonton of the Miami Herald.
The Gators are 5-3 on the year, but they are just 2-5 in their last seven games in Gainesville. Conversely, Spurrier was 68-5 at home during his time at Florida, famously stating that "only Gators get out alive."
This Florida Gators football time is looking to make that a reality once again by sending the Gamecocks to 4-6 while handing Spurrier is fourth loss in five trips to Gainesville as South Carolina's head coach.
“We’ve got to defend it,” senior center Max Garcia said bluntly. “The Swamp is a place where other teams should fear coming into. Only Gators get out alive. So we’ve got to make that happen again, we’ve got to take it back this game.”
