The Florida Gators remain within striking distance of a College Football Playoff berth after coming in at #8 in Tuesday's rankings reveal, sitting at 9-1 with an SEC West title already wrapped up. What have we learned from Florida's return to form in 2015? Here's 4 Things We Know About Florida Through 10 Games.
4. Jim McElwain Has Changed The Culture
A year ago, the entire program was lost at sea in the waning days of the Will Muschamp era. Now, UF is back on the cusp of championship glory. We give first-year Gators head coach Jim McElwain all the credit in the world for completely changing the going narrative of Florida football, emphasizing accountablity while not allowing his guys to settle for anything less than elite preparation and elite results.
3. Resilience Is Key
The Gators have soldiered on after starting QB Will Grier's suspension, keeping the ball rolling despite inconsistency from Treon Harris under center. Florida's offense is as anonymous of a unit as there comes in the Top 25, but they keep chugging and doing enough to keep UF marching forward.
2. The Defense Is Purely Elite
The Gators rank fifth in the nation in defensive efficiency and third amongst the current crop of undefeated and one-loss College Football Playoff contenders. The D doesn't get nearly enough credit with Alabama's defense hogging the SEC headlines, but they're good enough to hang with the Tide's unit ten times out of ten.
1. Florida Is The CFP Contender No One's Addressing
Why exactly are the #8 Florida Gators getting shuffled out of the College Football Playoff conversation in favor of other one-loss teams such as Oklahoma, Baylor, TCU, and even North Carolina? The SEC East champs have a cupcake against Florida Atlantic next week, but they've got #14 Florida State to close things out and a SEC Championship game showdown to think about as well. If the Gators win out and win the SEC, they're in the College Football Playoff.
If that's somehow not the case, the system is BROKEN.
