BOCA RATON — Hours after attending a funeral of a family friend killed in Wednesday’s mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, former Eagles left-hander and current Florida Atlantic ace Jake Miednik struck out seven and allowed only a lone hit in a 3-0 win over George Washington University on Friday night.
Visibly emotional and with his family — including his sister, Alexa, a senior at Douglas who survived Wednesday’s shooting — all in attendance, Miednik relied on his emotions to give the Owls a season-opening win. George Washington first baseman Dominic D’Alessandro was the only Colonial to record a hit against Miednik, who dazzled and had arguably his best start in a FAU uniform.
