The juxtaposition of the two facets of Florida Atlantic's offense was stark during Saturday's loss to Ball State. The Owls could connect for deep passes, but not convert critical short-yardage runs.
FAU registered three completions of more than 30 yards, matching the total from the season's first three games. Quarterback Jason Driskel showed off his arm as receivers Kalib Woods (a 46-yard gain and a 31-yard touchdown) and Nate Terry (47-yard reception) ran under balls.
Both Driskel and Owls offensive coordinator Travis Trickett said the deep balls were a product of improved pass protection by the offensive line, matchup advantages outside and an aggressive Ball State defense.
