BOCA RATON — Few teams could muster any sort of fight when Florida Atlantic rattled off nine straight wins against Conference USA opponents last year.
Only Marshall, which showed resiliency in a 30-25 loss to FAU on Nov. 3, came close to taking down Lane Kiffin’s Owls and halting their run to an eventual C-USA Championship. If not for a key defensive stop by FAU on the game’s final play following an intentional safety by punter Ryan Rickel, the Herd could have potentially upset the Owls at FAU Stadium.
Instead, FAU clinched bowl eligibility for the first time since 2013 that night.
