Notebook: Former San Diego Chargers quarterback-turned-motivational speaker Ryan Leaf speaks to FAU players

BOCA RATON — Lane Kiffin has brought another former NFL player to Florida Atlantic, though this recent guest did more than just visit and take pictures.

Former San Diego Chargers quarterback Ryan Leaf, the No. 2 overall pick in 1998 who battled substance abuse and legal issues before becoming a Program Ambassador for Transcend Recovery Community, spoke to the Owls on Monday night.

“He was great,” FAU head coach Lane Kiffin said. “One of his things is, ‘Worry about what you can control. You can’t control a lot of things.'”

Kiffin said he believed Leaf could “really relate” to the players.
