INDIANAPOLIS -- Longtime NFL defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin is joining the staff at Florida Atlantic to work under his son Lane, a league source confirmed to ESPN.
Kiffin's exact role is not yet known. His hiring was first reported by Sporting News.
The 77-year-old Monte Kiffin spent the 2016 season as a defensive assistant with the Jacksonville Jaguars under coach Gus Bradley but was not retained as part of new head coach Doug Marrone's staff. Kiffin had been assisting Bradley off and on for about eight months on an unpaid basis -- working as a consultant and reviewing film -- before being hired as a paid assistant last March.
