Worthen will be the third coach in the team’s 36 year history.
Florida Atlantic men’s soccer announced Tuesday Joey Worthen has been hired as the new head coach, taking over for Kos Donev, who was fired in December 2016 after 30 years with the team.
The 37-year-old former defender spent most of his nine year professional career in the United Soccer League. He was signed in 2006 to a contract with Major League soccer side Real Salt Lake, where he appeared in three games for the team.
Worthen had been part of the University of South Carolina coaching staff since 2012, and FAU will be his first-ever head coaching job.
