FAU announced the hiring of Glenn Spencer, who last season held the same role at Conference USA foe Charlotte, on Friday afternoon.
The move comes after the Owls and former defensive coordinator Tony Pecoraro parted ways on Dec. 3.
Last year, his one with Charlotte, Spencer revitalized the 49ers defense as they ranked 11th in the country in run defense with 88.5 rushing yards against them per game.
Before his lone campaign at Charlotte, Spencer spent 10 years as Oklahoma State’s defensive coordinator, defensive line coach and linebackers coach.
