BOCA RATON — Try as he may, Lane Kiffin could only defend Florida Atlantic’s defensive struggles for so long.
“We go against them all the time and that’s been a strength,” Kiffin said of his defense Sunday. “Just surprised for the lack of (strength) on game day. … We gotta play better in all areas.”
It’s still early in Kiffin’s second season and FAU, despite getting outscored 174-132 in the first four games, is still off to its best start at 2-2 since 2007. But everything which went right last year on defense as FAU rattled off 10 straight wins to finish 11-3 and win both the Conference USA Championship and the Boca Raton Bowl has been missing for a rising Owls program.
