All former Florida Atlantic receiver John Franklin III wanted was an opportunity.
After being passed over in last month’s NFL draft, he finally got it. On Sunday, Franklin signed a free agent contract with the Chicago Bears as a defensive back/kick returner.
The transition shouldn’t be difficult for Franklin because he displayed versatility throughout his collegiate career. A former four-star recruit at South Plantation High School, he played quarterback at Florida State and Auburn before moving to receiver his final two seasons.
He also played both positions his lone year at FAU.
