BOCA RATON — What Florida Atlantic walk-on running back Gerald Hearns lacks in carries at the Division I level, he more than makes up for with heart and character. Clearly, others around the country are paying attention.
Hearns, 21, was one named to the watch list for the Wuerffel Trophy, a yearly award given to the FBS player who “best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.” A key piece of the 2013 Dwyer Panthers team which won a state title, Hearns is entering his third season at FAU after joining the Owls as a walk-on from Florida A&M in 2016.
