BOCA RATON — Given the offseason hype and talk of a potential College Football Playoff run, the Florida Atlantic Owls might disappoint some fans by going into their bye week with a .500 record.
Given the reality of where FAU was before Lane Kiffin was hired in December 2016, being 3-3 (1-1 in Conference USA play) halfway through the season is almost new ground for a program that holds a 73-104 record since moving to the FBS level in 2004. Following a 52-33 win over Old Dominion (1-5, 0-3) on Saturday night, this year’s FAU team is in a position that few others Owls teams had before them.
