Florida Atlantic’s defensive tackles ready to take step forward in 2018 following strong 2017

BOCA RATON — Once again, Florida Atlantic enters a football season needing to replace a starting defensive tackle – and once again, the team should have more than enough depth to still find success in the trenches.

Though Belle Glade alumnus Steven Leggett returns for his senior season after posting career-high numbers in 2017, the Owls will spend part of training camp finding a replacement for Jeremiah Taleni. After joining the Owls as a graduate student from Pittsburgh in August, Taleni led defensive tackles with five sacks, all of which came in the season’s final five games.

Juniors Will Davis and Kevin McCrary will compete for the job which once held by Taleni, with JUCO transfer Charles Cameron and fifth-year senior Ray Ellis both also candidates to see playing time.
