Florida Atlantic defensive coordinator Roc Bellantoni said the Owls will likely play more base defense — and less nickel — against Miami this weekend to match the Hurricanes' personnel.
Miami runs a pro-style offense under new coach Mark Richt that features two-tight end and two-running back sets, a stark difference from Southern Illinois' spread attack. Bellantoni said FAU would rather play three linebackers for most of the game instead of five defensive backs.
Instead of entering the game as FAU's nickelback, sophomore Ocie Rose will play more safety against Miami, Bellantoni said. Rose will spell free safeties Andrew Soroh and Anthony Hamilton, while Jalen Young stays at strong safety.
