BOCA RATON — Perhaps the toughest lesson that Jovon Durante and the Florida Atlantic Owls needed to learn this season came in the toughest way possible on Saturday night.
Up 21-3 shortly before halftime against Middle Tennessee, Durante and the Owls began admiring the scoreboard displaying FAU’s lead. What once was a sizable late lead on the road turned into a last-second, 25-24 loss that puts the Owls (2-3, 0-1 in C-USA play) in “must win” mode entering Saturday’s game against Old Dominion (1-4, 0-2).
“I just think it was a wake-up call,” said Durante, who leads the Owls with 30 catches for 386 yards and two touchdowns.
