Florida Atlantic has to rebuild most of special teams unit after losing starters to graduation

BOCA RATON — As expected when both the starting kicker and punter graduate, plenty of mystery surrounds Florida Atlantic’s special teams unit entering the 2018 season.

Kicker Greg Joseph (American Heritage), the all-time program leader in field goals and scoring, is now competing for the Miami Dolphins’ starting kicking job. Punter Ryan Rickel, whose efforts were limited late season with how often FAU scored, has also exhausted his final year of eligibility, meaning the Owls will rely exclusively on walk-ons to replace the two seniors.

Not that being a walk-on is bad, of course. Joseph, while inconsistent, did finish with nearly every major kicking records after joining the Owls as a walk-on.
