BOCA RATON — At 22 with a college degree in one hand and a Conference USA championship ring on the other, Florida Atlantic defensive tackle Ray Ellis is quickly realizing a fact of life.
“I’m getting old,” Ellis said.
Not that 22 is old, especially not when the Owls’ offensive coordinator, Charlie Weis Jr., is only 25. But after tearing his ACL twice in 13 months and playing only one game since the 2015 season ended, Ellis now tends to look at life with a different perspective.
After all, there aren’t many athletes, let alone a 285-pound defensive tackle who won two state championships in New Jersey, who can come back from two torn ACLs still wanting to play football.
