Tied in a game that had already seen two separate lightning delays and several lead changes, senior right fielder David Miranda lined a three-run single to right field to help FAU advance to the second round of the Conference USA baseball tournament with a 7-4 win over rival Florida International.

As if facing a resilient FIU (26-27) team wasn’t enough to begin the Owls’ conference title hopes, FAU (37-15-1) began play at 9:10 a.m. local time and didn’t finish the game until 4:43 p.m.

“That was unbelievable, by both teams,” FAU coach John McCormack said. “To play and sit, play and sit, play and sit, both teams used a ton of pitching, and every time we took the lead, they would come right back with some huge home runs.
