BOCA RATON — Becoming the next Tua Tagovailoa is one of the few things keeping Florida Atlantic reserve quarterback Rafe Peavey motivated.
It might be too late for Peavey, a graduate transfer from SMU, to become a Heisman Trophy contender or win a National Championship. But Peavey is confident he can do what Tagovailoa, Alabama’s first-year starting quarterback, did in last year’s College Football Playoff: come off the bench, replace the starting quarterback, and lead his team to victory.
“I love seeing that,” Peavey said. “Backup quarterbacks go in there and make big things happen like Tua (Tagovailoa) and Alabama in the National Championship Game.
