BOCA RATON — Not known for expressing his emotions, Lane Kiffin had trouble hiding his smile.
Following Monday morning’s practice, Kiffin made walk-on running back Gerald Hearns stand up to address the team. A former star at Dwyer, Hearns joined the Owls as a walk-on in 2016 and ran for 67 yards on 11 carries last season. Strong performances in both spring and fall camp have Hearns seeing snaps behind AP All-American Devin Singletary as one of the team’s top reserve running backs.
But while Kiffin has long praised Hearns for his “story” and work ethic, the second-year Owls coach was far from pleased on Monday.
