BOCA RATON — At 25 and with a face that betrays his age, Charlie Weis Jr. both fits the looks and the demographics of those who play “Fortnite.”
It just catches some by surprise when Weis, entering his first year as Florida Atlantic’s offensive coordinator, turns on his Nintendo Switch for a Battle Royale match in “Fornite.”
“That’s how you know he’s young,” quarterback De’Andre Johnson said.
Across a 15-minute press conference during FAU’s media day on Sunday, Weis showed he’s more than just the youngest offensive coordinator in college football. The son of a longtime NFL and NCAA head coach, the younger Weis doesn’t like country music, has never held a non-football job, and is an avid “Fortnite” player, just like the kids he’s coaching.
