FAU head coach Lane Kiffin concerned with special teams after allowing blocked punts in consecutive weeks

BOCA RATON — Replacing two proven seniors at both kicker and punter was never going to be an easy task for Florida Atlantic head coach Lane Kiffin.

But while redshirt freshman kicker Vladimir Rivas has been solid early in replacing four-year starter Greg Joseph (American Heritage), true freshman walk-on punter Sebastian Reilla has struggled taking over for the gradated Ryan Rickel. Riella has had punts blocked for touchdowns in consecutive weeks, the second coming late in Saturday’s 33-27 win over Air Force.

“Two weeks in a row getting punts blocked, that might be a world record,” Kiffin said, echoing a similar comment he made Saturday when he said the chances of having punts blocked in consecutive weeks were a “million to one.
