When Lane Kiffin was hired as an assistant at USC, he was only 26.
So he knows all about being labeled too young or inexperienced for a position. That made it even easier for Kiffin, now coach at Florida Atlantic, to hire Charlie Weis Jr. as offensive coordinator in January. At 25, Weis is the youngest coordinator at the Division I-A level.
In a recent interview with ESPN, Kiffin explained his decision to ignore youth and focus on ability.
"Age is irrelevant. Experience is relevant," Kiffin said in the interview.
