The first time Ocie Rose met former Miami rapper Luther Campbell, they were on a football field.
Rose was a high schooler playing for Booker T. Washington. Campbell, a hip-hop star in late ’80s and early ’90s with 2 Live Crew, was a football coach at Miami Norland High.
Several years later, Rose, now a junior defensive back at Florida Atlantic, will get a chance to meet Campbell again.
“He’s like a music icon in Miami,” Rose said on Tuesday.
At 3 p.m. on Saturday, the FAU football team will hold a practice at Charles Hadley Park in Miami’s Liberty City, a regular stomping ground for Campbell as a youth football coach.
