The WNBA did not yet exist when Yolanda Griffith played basketball at Florida Atlantic University in 1992-93, but when the league announced its "Top 20 at 20" list on Tuesday, Griffith made the cut.
The list, which celebrates the 20 "greatest and most influential players" in WNBA history, was announced Tuesday on SportsCenter on the anniversary of the WNBA’s first ever game on June 21, 1997. This year marks the 20th season of WNBA basketball.
“Of the more than 850 players who have taken the court during our 20 seasons, I can't think of 20 women who better represent where the league has come from and where it is headed," WNBA Chief of Basketball Operations and Player Relations Renee Brown wrote in a news release.
